A day after being shut out by the Southern Illinois Miners at Rent One Stadium, the River City Rascals returned home and returned the favor by shutting out the Miners 7-0.
The Rascals jumped on top in the third on a two run homer by Bobby Mosby and added another run on Mosby’s RBI double in the fifth. Andy Bettis’ double and Brad Hough’s single accounted for three more in the seventh. Phil Laurent drove in the final run in the eighth with an RBI single, his fourth hit of the game.
Laurent had three singles and a double, Mosby a single, double and home run, and Bettis two singles and a double.Chris Clem scattered five hits and allowed only one Miner to reach third base. He struck out nine Southern Illinois hitters while walking two and hitting one. It was the first win of the season for Clem, who saw his ERA drop from 6.46 to 5.25. Ryan Quigley made his first start for the Miners and took the loss.
